PARK CITY, Utah, November 16, 2004 -- Carbon Graphics LLC is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Geo Simplify™, a set of plugins that allow the user to reduce the polygon count of a model with the click of a button and the movement of a slider.
When invoked, Geo Simplify performs an analysis of the current selection - or the entire model if nothing is selected - and presents the user with a slider to control (as a % of the original) how many polygons are desired in the reduced model. This extremely powerful tool can be used to achieve a number of goals:
Geo Simplify also contains a simplification importance tool. This is a utility to allow users to influence the polygon reduction process by identifying areas of higher or lower level relative importance in the model. This is accomplished by directly painting the areas of influence onto the model surface. User input is then incorporate into the automatic reduction process.
Andy Bushnell, Carbon Graphics' President stated: "This is an extremely powerful addition to the Geo toolbox. Based on cutting-edge Multi-Resolution Mesh technology, Geo Simplify can interactively reduce a 15000 polygon aircraft model to 550 in less than 10 seconds!. The really cool thing is that if the reduction is not perfect - just adjust the slider or change the selection as desired". Mr Bushnell further added: "This tool greatly decreases the time and effort required to make real-time versions of high-polygon count models or lower LOD model versions".
