Carbon Graphics Announces Geo STUDIO PRO 3.6: A Focused Update Ahead of its Major 64-bit Transition
Carbon Graphics is pleased to announce the release of Geo STUDIO PRO 3.6, an update that delivers powerful new modeling tools, workflow refinements, and important stability improvements. Although this is a slightly earlier release than usual—due to our development team transitioning focus to the upcoming 64-bit Geo STUDIO PRO 4.0—Version 3.6 still delivers a substantial set of new capabilities that many users have been eagerly awaiting.
Major New Features
New Loft Tool (Rebuilt from the Ground Up)
After many customer requests, the classic lofting functionality from Geo 2.0 has been completely replaced with a modern, flexible Loft Tool. Users can now:
Loft wall polygons between two selected contours
Perform multiple lofts within the same session
Enjoy in-tool undo and smoother interactive workflowsThis new Loft Tool also enables several other 3.6 features, including multi-section hull generation in the Tube Tool.
Enhanced Orthographic Views
The Front, Side, and Top views have been updated to eliminate long-standing inconsistencies. A new SHIFT + Right-Click context menu provides rapid access to:
Opposite-side views (Back, Bottom, etc.)
Background image management
Additional view-specific options
Plugin-Driven Radial Menus
Geo’s plugin architecture now allows plugins to update and customize the Radial Menu that is available during the lifetime of the tool session - dynamically, enabling faster tool-specific actions and more efficient workflows.
Major Tube Tool Upgrade
Guided by extensive user feedback, the Tube Tool has been significantly expanded:
Full integration with all three orthographic views
Support for variable cross-section counts and shapes
Contours can now have different vertex counts
Automatic hull generation using the new Loft Tool
Tool-specific Radial Menu enhancements
Perfect for CAD-like blueprint modeling or multi-view construction workflows.
New Bevel Edge Tool
A highly requested modeling feature:
Select multiple polygon edges and apply a controllable bevel width
Automatically adjusts original edges and maintains correct poly sizes
Supports in-tool undo
Auto-edge selection when starting from a selected polygon
“Shrink Mode” (K key) ensures precise vertex picks
Custom Radial Menu entries for fast operationAn excellent way to quickly soften hard edges or prepare geometry for next-stage modeling.
New Translate Gizmo
The Translate Tool now supports a full 3-axis gizmo:
Drag colored cones to constrain motion along X/Y/Z
Drag colored squares to move along XY/XZ/YZ planes
Drag the center box to reposition the origin freely
Combine moves with full in-tool undo
Adjust gizmo size using “+” and “–” keys. This delivers a modern, intuitive translation workflow while preserving the classic one.
Cut Insert Tool
A new modeling tool that allows:
Selecting “parent” and “insert” polygons
Cutting insert shapes cleanly from parent polygons
Multiple cuts within one session
Full in-tool undo. This is a precursor to full boolean operations, planned for a future release.
New Helper Point Tools
Six new HelperPt tools place pivot points at the selection’s center but offset to ±X, ±Y, or ±Z extremes. This lets users add pivot/reference points without exiting the active tool, dramatically speeding up modeling workflows.
A new HelperPts On Selection BBox tool has also been added.
Duplicate Tool Enhancements
A powerful new auto-repeat feature:
After the initial manual duplicate & move, users can repeat the operation
Each repeat moves and copies by the same original amount - Ideal for replicating objects like tables, pillars, rails, or patterned elements.
Spherical Mapping Tool
New texture mapping capabilities:
Spherical UV generation
Configurable Up-axis
Adjustable U/V scale and offset
Automatic artifact prevention at seams and poles
Full Radial Menu integration
GLTF Improvements & New Extension Support
Importer Stability Fixes
A significant bug has been fixed where primitives using different materials could incorrectly merge vertex lists, causing large memory use and potential crashes. This update greatly improves:
Stability
Memory usage
Scenegraph accuracy
KHR_texture_transform Support
PBR materials can now use:
UV offset
UV scale
RotationAll applied on the GPU—no baked UVs. Essential for texture atlases.
KHR_node_visibility Support
Geo now reads this extension to automatically hide groups and their child polygons. The Hidden flag can also be manually toggled in the Group attributes, enabling powerful hierarchy-based visibility control.
Important Fixes
Undo list no longer persists after loading new files
Texture Properties now support separate U/V wrap modes
Numerous stability improvements across the toolset
Looking Forward: Geo STUDIO PRO 4.0 (64-bit)
Version 3.6 marks the final major 32-bit release of Geo STUDIO PRO. Carbon Graphics is now focused on Geo STUDIO PRO 4.0, a modernized 64-bit version with deeper capabilities, expanded scene sizes, improved performance, and a new generation of modeling tools.
The target release is January 2026.
